ERIS PARFUMS

Named after Eris, the Greek goddess of troublemaking and disruption, ERIS PARFUMS is inspired by muses — divine, human, and fragrant — that exemplify unconventional beauty and dark, subversive glamour.

Born in Saigon, Vietnam, founder Barbara Herman moved to the U.S. with her family when she was three years old and spent most of her life living in bohemian enclaves, from San Francisco, New Orleans, to New York City. She graduated with a degree in film and rhetoric, but her nose took her elsewhere, beyond academia. It was after she left graduate school and began to write for a living that she fell into the curious world of perfume obsessives. Collecting vintage fragrances and writing about them on her blog combined her love of perfume, which had lain dormant, with her other passion, writing.

After interviewing renowned French perfumer Antoine Lie for her book, Barbara asked him to help her create a collection of fragrances as bold as her favorite vintage perfumes but for a contemporary audience.

For over 30 years, master perfumer Antoine Lie has created innovative and award-winning fragrances for some of the largest luxury brands in the world including Tom Ford, Comme des Garçons and Versaci. Lauded for his bold, experimental, romantic and even punk compositions, he is credited with profoundly influencing numerous shifts in the olfactory landscape with works such as Sécrétions Magnifiques (Etat Libre D’Orange, 2007) and Wonderwood (Comme des Garçons, 2008). In keeping with his career-spanning dedication to experimentalism, Lie went independent in 2019, affording him the freedom to continue creating bold and surprising fragrances for like-minded clients as the commercial world of fragrance continued to privilege streamlined profit over unique, boundary pushing scents and quality materials.
