Shigaraki ware is made in Shigaraki, Koka City in the Shiga Prefecture. It is counted as one of the six oldest kilns in Japan and is said to have been in use for over 1,260 years.

Hechimon is a Shigaraki craftsman's word meaning "a strange thing" — just like the various shapes created by nature and the individuality of each of us. Each vessel is handmade by skilled craftspeople and filled with a sense of rustic playfulness and sincerity.
