The theme of La Religieuse is deep, philosophical and religious, and its composition was constructed as a fight of good and evil, a contrast of black and white.

Sweeter in time, with buttered lily peeking through rings of smoke surrounding cold white petals from heaven; drops of cherry syrup red like the blood of martyrs strewn across. Cold and grapey.
