Series 6: Synthetic
In 2004, Comme des Garçons declared war on natural components with the launch of a new series of anti-perfumes, Series 6: Synthetic. The smells of
a big city were captured in a transparent plastic bottle in which one could observe a garbage bag. Each fragrance was imbued with something familiar, and even dear, just as we like the strange smells of our childhood. The brand described this body of work as “socially incorrect fragrances”, “ground breaking anti-perfumes pushing beyond the realm of traditional fragrances.”
One word: fun. Possibly the most exuberant and fizzy glass of Sprite one could imagine. The sophistication and playfulness here comes from the strength of a bracing and addictive ginger accord. Originally imagined as a soda purchased by a citizen of a metropolis on an exhaustingly hot day, CDG writes, “Bubbles are spraying the face and the drink is cold, citrusy-sweet and of artificially intensive color and aroma. Just like from a child’s dreams.”
